Unos cuantos guitarristas tocaron mis arreglos y subieron sus grabaciones a Youtube. Acá va una recopilación. Pienso que esto puede ser útil para los que tienen dificultades en interpretar algunas partituras o les parece que no corresponde a lo que toco. Se aceptan sugerencias. Gracias a todos.

Several guitar players recorded my Hisaishi arrangements for Youtube. Here goes a recopilation. I believe this can be useful for those who have difficulties at deciphering my scores, or feel that what it's written is not what I play. Suggestions are welcome. Thank you all.

MrBenoit34 (Francia) merece mención aparte por su alta calidad de grabación y ejecución.

Y algunas curiosidades:
En esta audición de estudiantes de guitarra, entre las obras ejecutadas está mi arreglo de la obertura de Nausicaa (minuto 8:24).
Este documental (o algo así) usa mi interpretación de Howl como cortina musical, al comienzo.
Alguien subió mi vieja interpretación de el final de El viaje de Chihiro, que fuera dada de baja de Youtube.
Finalmente, un recuerdo: esta versión de Laputa no es mía, sino que es la que me inspiró por primera vez (mediados de 2006) la idea de hacer mi propio arreglo, y, más tarde, de subir un video a Youtube - sólo uno, y con mucha timidez.

Este fue el último video que subí a mi canal en Youtube, dos semanas antes de que me lo cerraran.

El Pericón es una danza tradicional de Argentina y Uruguay. Es un baile grupal, pariente del Cielito, a su vez con influencias de danzas europeas (minué, contradanza). Se bailaba en el virreinato del Rio de la Plata ya a principios del siglo XIX. A fines de ese siglo tuvo un resurgir (circo de los hermanos Podestá), de entonces data la versión musical fijada por Gerardo Grasso, en Uruguay, llamada “El Nacional”. Sobre esa versión de Grasso hizo una trascripción para guitarra Gaspar Sagreras, la cual fue reformada por Julio Sagreras – y sobre esta hice algunas modificaciones menores, y omití repetición.

The “Pericón” is a traditional dance from Argentina and Uruguay. It is related to other folkloric dances (“cielito”), all with european roots (contradance, minuet). Is was already popular in the beginning of s. XIX. At the end of that century it enjoyed a renewed popularity (circus of the Podesta brothers), and at that time Gerardo Grasso (Uruguay) wrote down the musical version (“Pericón Nacional”) that is most usually heard until today. From this version, Gaspar Sagreras made a guitar transcription, later Julio Sagreras reformed it – and I made a few modifications.

Arolas fue bandoneonista, y uno de los principales compositores de la primera generación del tango - la llamada "Guardia vieja", de 1900 a 1920 aproximadamente. "La cachila" es una de sus obras más conocidas, un tango instrumental (existe una letra pero casi nunca se la escucha). Es uno de los primeros tangos que saqué (parcialmente y no muy bien) en la guitarra, hace mucho tiempo - creo que en base a la versión de Troilo y Grela. Este un arreglo nuevo que hice para esta grabación.

Tema de "La princesa Mononoke" (película de Miyazaki, música de Hisaishi), precedido de "Viaje al oeste", de la misma. Además de la guitarra nueva, ahora incorporé soporte para guitarra, y nuevo micrófono (Sansom C01U). Lamentablemente, cometí la idiotez de orientarlo muy mal... Me extrañaba que captara tanto soplido... por suerte, unas semanas después, un guitarrista en un foro me desasnó.

Main theme for "Princess Mononoke" (Miyazaki), preceeded by "Journey to the west", from the same movie; both composed by Hisaishi. Besides the new guitar, now I had new guitar support (barely visible) and a new microphone (Sansom C01U). Sadly, I placed it badly, pointing to the wrong side... I felt that it got too much noise, but... only some weeks later another guitar player in a forum made me see the light...

Coste is one of the several composers for guitar of the XIX century, his pieces and studies appear frequently in recopilation and method books for students of classical guitar.

De Hisaishi, el tema principal de "Mi vecino Totoro" (Miyazaki - "Totoro" y "Chihiro" son mis dos películas favoritas de estudio Ghibli). El tema aparece en varias partes de la película, a veces en climas calmos, a veces más enérgicos (como durante los títulos del final). En mi versión, trato de reflejar esas variaciones acentuando el ritmo en la repetición. Creo que quedó bastante bien.

From Hisaishi, the main theme from "My neighbour Totoro" (Miyazaki). In the movie, this music appears in several ocassions, sometimes with a gentle feeling, sometimes more energically (as in the ending credits). In my version, I changed a little the rythm in the repetition. Not bad.

"Sootballs" (Bolitas de hollín), de Hisaishi, música de la película "El viaje de Chihiro" (Miyazaki). La escena es memorable (como tantas de la película) pero la canción rara vez es ejecutada. Mi arreglo - la interpretación está un poco tensa, podría haber quedado mejor.

"Umi ni Naretara" (literalmente "Si yo pudiera ser el mar..."), música de Shigeru Nagata, letra de Youko Sakamoto. Es la música de cierre de la película "Puedo escuchar el mar" (Ocean waves), una obra para TV de estudios Ghibli, no muy conocida, pero que me gusta mucho -entre otras cosas, por la música. Mi arreglo, de oído.

"Umi ni Naretara" ( "If I could be the sea..."), music by Shigeru Nagata, lyrics by Youko Sakamoto. This piece plays during the ending credits of "Ocean waves" (I can hear the sea), a movie for TV from studio Ghibli. It's not very well kwnown, but I love it; among other things, for the music. My own arrangement; I enjoyed playing this.

"Desarma y sangra", de Charly García; pertenece al disco "Bicicleta", de Serú Girán (1980). Mi arreglo instrumental, mayormente de oído. A la primera parte le falta un poco de sal... Me gusta más cómo quedó el intermedio (instrumental en el original), donde me tomo algunas libertades, rítmicas sobre todo, metiéndole un toque folklórico (la canción está en 6/8, después de todo...) No pasé en limpio la partitura, pero al menos ahí están los acordes que uso.

"Sampo" (en japonés: "¡Vamos de paseo!"), es la obertura de "Mi vecino Totoro" (Miyazaki). Esta canción, una de las más alegres de Hisaishi, con letra del mismo Miyazaki, es un clásico infantil en Japón. Me di el gusto de mezclar los dibujitos iniciales con el video; y además incorporé una doble toma de cada mano, en las mitades de la imagen, como ayuda a los guitarristas (gracias, Avisynth). En general: video, arreglo e interpretación, creo que quedó bastante bien.

"Sampo" (in japanese: "Stroll"), is the theme for the opening credits of "My neighbour Totoro" (Miyazaki). This piece, one of the most joyful from Hisaishi, with lyrics from Miyazaki himself, is a classic child song in Japan. I enjoyed fighting with the video edition (Avisynth) to merge the figures from the credits animation with the video recording. I think the global result (video, arrangement and playing) is quite nice.

"Agitando pañuelos" es una zamba sencilla y bella de los hermanos Ábalos. A modo de homenaje a don Adolfo Ábalos, pianista santiagueño, fallecido esos días (12 de mayo de 2008).

"Agitando pañuelos" is a simple and beatiful zamba from the Ábalos brothers. In memoriam don Adolfo Ábalos, pianist from the argentine north-west, who died those days (12 May 2008).

The argentine zamba (not to be confused with the brasilian samba) is a folkloric dance, in 6/8 measure. In the past it had a more agitated and joyful feeling (as the cueca, a related dance), today it frequently is played more slowly.

De la banda de sonido de "Nausicaä del valle del viento" (Miyazaki - 1984), la obertura (Hisaishi); esta fue la primera vez que Hisaishi compuso música para películas de Miyazaki. Es una pieza con una melodía clara y simple, se adapta bien a mi manera de tocar guitarra (o a mis limitaciones). Me gusta cómo quedó.

From the OST of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" (Miyazaki - 1984), the opening theme (Hisaishi). This was the first time Hisaishi composed music for Miyazaki's movies. This piece has a clear and simple melodic line, it suits well my guitar playing style (or my limitations). I like the result.

Dos canciones de Hisaishi para la banda de sonido de "Kiki's delivery service", de Miyazaki: "La escoba de mamá" (Kaasan no Houki) y "Una ciudad con vista al mar" (Umi no Mieru Machi ). La primera, melancólica, es menos conocida; y, como me ha sucedido otras veces, al principio dudé en publicarla, y después tuvo una repercusión superior a la esperada. La segunda es más movida y también más conocida; mi interpretación tiene varias imperfecciones. Sólo transcribí la partitura de la primera canción.

A los interesados en tocar la segunda canción, les sugiero visitar a Benoît que ha grabado su propia versión, con partitura incluida.

Dos canciones de Hisaishi para la banda de sonido de "Kiki's delivery service", de Miyazaki: "Mom's Broom" (Kaasan no Houki) y "A Town with an Ocean View" (Umi no Mieru Machi ). The first one, slow, is less known; and -same as other times- at first I was not very convinced about my version, and I even doubted about publishing it; but people really liked it. The second piece, more joyful, is more played; it's also more difficult, and I'm not very satisfied with my playing. I only wrote down the score for the first one.

If you are interested in playing the second song, I suggest to visit Benoît's blog, who has recorded his own version, with score available.

"The merry go round of life", de Joe Hisaishi. Este vals es el tema principal de "El castillo errante de Howl" (o "El increíble castillo vagabundo", o "Howl's moving castle"), película de Miyazaki. Al momento de grabarlo, me pareció que el arreglo no funcionaba muy bien, y estuve cerca de no publicarlo; por algún motivo, terminó siendo una de mis grabaciones más populares.

La pieza está en LA menor, cambia a SI menor cerca del final para termina en FA#. Los que intenten ejecutar la partitura encima del video, tener en cuenta que aquella no incluye una repetición por la mitad.

"The merry go round of life" (Joe Hisaishi). This waltz is the main theme of "Howl's moving castle" (Hauru no Ugoku Shiro), movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki (2004). While I was recording, I thought that my arrangement didn't work out very well, and I nearly gave up; and, for some reason, this turned to be one of my most popular videos.

The piece is in A minor, it changes to B minor near the end, to conclude in F#. For those who intend to play the score over the video, bear in mind that the score does not include some repetitions.

"Village in May" ("Mayo campestre", podríamos traducir), de Joe Hisashi, acompaña los momentos iniciales de "Mi vecino Totoro" (Miyazaki), cuando las niñas viajan con el padre hacia su nueva casa en el campo. Mi arreglo, sobre una partitura para piano, usa afinación alternativa (sexta en FA). Me gusta cómo me quedó el arreglo, pero la interpretación podría ser más relajada y fluida.

"Zamba del laurel", música de Gustavo Leguizamón, letra de Armando Tejada Gómez. El "Cuchi" Leguizamón se caracteriza por armonías relativamente modernas (séptimas y novenas) dentro de las estructuras del folklore tradicional argentino. Este mi arreglo, no lo pasé a partitura; le falta un poco de variaciones.

"El verano de Kikujiro" es una película de Kitano, con música de Hisaishi. Este es el tema principal. Mi arreglo, sobre la partitura para piano, usa una afinación alternativa (sexta en FA). Es una canción muy simple, armónicamente; su gracia está en el ritmo, continuo y sincopado; en ese aspecto, creo que quedó bastante bien.

"Kikujiro" (Kikujirō no Natsu) is a japanese movie from Kitano, music by Joe Hisaishi. This is the main them. My arrangement, adapted from the piano score, employs an alternative tuning (sixth string in F). The piece is armonically very simple, its charm lies in its flowing rythm and syncopated melodic line; in this regard, I'm quite satisfied with the result.

Del "El viaje de Chihiro" (Hayao Miyazaki), la famosa escena del tren sobre el agua. El tema se llama "La sexta estación" (Joe Hisaishi). Mi arreglo para guitarra, bastante libre - el original tiene varias modulaciones, yo me quedo en MI menor.

De entre mis videos este es uno de mis favoritos, por cómo quedó armado. Fue el primer video filmado con la cámara fotográfica (Canon Powershot 550 - no es gran cosa, pero mucho mejor que la antigua webcam!). Y fue por este video que Youtube dio de baja mi cuenta.

From "Spirited away" (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi) (Hayao Miyazaki), the great scene of the train over the waters. The title of the piece, from Joe Hisaishi, is "The sixth station". This is my arrangement for guitar, quite free - the original has several modulations, here I stay always in E minor.

This is one of my preferred recordings, I like specially how the video editing fitted. It was the first one with decent video quality (Canon Poweshot 550 - not a great thing, but much better than my previous cheap webcam!). And it was because of this video that Youtube terminated my channel.

"La decisión de Sheeta" (Shita No ketsui), música de Hisaishi, de la película "Laputa, castillo en el cielo" (Miyazaki). Con el mismo equipamiento precario de mis primeras grabaciones. Esta fue la primera vez que usé una afinación alternativa (sexta cuerda en Fa), que repito en otras pocas interpretaciones.

"One summer day" (Ano Natsu He): El tema principal de "El viaje de Chihiro" (música de Hisaishi, película de Miyazaki). Grabé dos versiones, la primera en LA menor, la otra en MI menor. Ninguna de las dos me convence demasiado... El segundo video tiene además algún defecto de edición (parpadeos). Algun día tendría que grabar una mejor versión.

"Ashitaka to San" (de Joe Hisaishi) es el tema que cierra "Princesa Mononoke" (Miyazaki). Mala calidad de video, grabado con webcam. Es la primera vez que inserté fragmentos de la película en el video; me pareció una buena idea, para ayudar a evocar la película (para mí la música de Hisaishi tiene su valor primordialmente como ingrediente de las películas de Miyazaki), y me lo sigue pareciendo - aunque debido a esto Youtube terminó cerrándome el canal.

En mis arreglos suelo meter algunas armonizaciones informales, desprolijas, como un rasgueo semi improvisado sobre los acordes, acompañando la melodía. Eso, que es difícil de reflejar en las partituras, es más pronunciado en canciones melódicas ("románticas"), como esta.

"Ashitaka to San" (from Joe Hisaishi) is the musical theme that ends "Princess Mononoke" (Miyazaki). Bad video quality, still recording with a cheap webcam. This was the first time I intermixed the video with short fragments from the movie. It seemed to me a good idea, because it helps to evocate the movie (and, for me, Hisaishi music is in first place an ingredient of Miyazaki's movies); and I still think it was a good idea, though because of this Youtube ended terminating my account.

In my arrangements I often add some informal relaxed armonizations, semi strumming over the chords, to adorn the melody. This thing, rather difficult to transcribe in the scores, is more pronounced in melodic ("romantic") songs, as this one.

El vals de "El viaje de Chihiro" (Miyazaki), música de Hisaishi; en la película acompaña el climax, cuando Chihiro y Haku vuelan tomados de la mano. Una pieza muy simple, la grabé y subí poco después del primer video, con el mismo equipamiento precario, por lo cual la calidad de video es muy pobre.

Tema de "Laputa, castillo en el cielo" (película de Miyazaki, música de Hisaishi). Mi primer video subido a Youtube. De hecho, nunca antes me había grabado tocando la guitarra.

La calidad de sonido es discreta, y la de video es espantosa. Fue, de todas maneras, uno de los videos más vistos. Años después volví a grabar esta canción, y con nuevo equipo (guitarra, micrófono y camára), y con leves variaciones.

Main theme from "Laputa, castle in the sky", movie from Hayao Miyazaki, music by Joe Hisaishi. This is my first video uploaded to Youtube (actually, I had never before recorder myself playing guitar).

Mediocre sound quality and horrendous video quality... However, this was one of the most visited videos in my channel. Years later I uploaded a new version, with new equipment (guitar, mic, camera) and slight modifications.

Esto no tiene nada que ver con el tema del blog, pero algunos me preguntan cómo hice para tener textos "biligües" (español/inglés) alternativos. No es una facilidad que provea Blogger, sino programación básica de páginas web (HTML/Javascript/Jquery). Para el interesado que se anime a editar plantillas y texto HTML (al resto, no se lo aconsejo, y no respondo por problemas) explico cómo lo implementé.

This has nothing to do with the thematic of the blog, but some people ask me how I did the bilingual toggeable texts in my posts (english/spanish). This is not a feature provided by Blogger, but I coded it myself (HTML/Javascript/Jquery). For those who might be interested (not recommended for those who are not confortable editing templates and messing with HTML code; and I take no responsabilities!) I explain how I did it.

1. Agregar lo siguiente al template (plantilla), en la sección HEAD (antes del tag</head>). Los styles .lesp .leng se aplicarán a los textos en español e inglés; .lbutton es para los botones que alternan el lenguage activo. Pueden cambiar los colores y formatos, por supuesto; lo mismo para el estilo que está harcodeado (mal hecho) en javascript (var buttonoff ...).
Estoy usando el jquery hosteado en ajax.googleapis.com, pueden usar otro si prefieren.

1. Add the following to you template, in the HEAD section (before the </head> tag). The .lesp .leng styles will apply to the spanish and english texts; .lbutton is for the buttons that toggle the language. You can change colours and formats, of course; same for the harcoded style (bad practice!) inside the Javascript function (var buttonoff ...).
You'll notice I'm including the Jquery library hosted at ajax.googleapis.com, you can change this if you like.

2. Agregar el código de los botones. Esto puede ir en cualquier lado: en la barra lateral, en el encabezamiento, en el pie de los posts... Por ejemplo, para agregarlo al pie de los posts, yo edité la plantilla (con "expandir artilugios"), y lo agregué después de los botones de compartir, despues de

Soy guitarrista amateur, estudié algo muy joven (7 a 12 años), pero sólo pasada la adolescencia empecé a tomarle el gusto. Aunque nunca estudié seriamente, y nunca toqué (ni tocaré!) en público; tengo poco oído musical, y poca disciplina.

Guitarra: En mis primeros videos (2006-2009 aproximadamente) toco una guitarra japonesa genérica (rara: Asahi CG-413). Desde 2010 toco una Yamaha CG-111-C. No tengo una marca de cuerda estable.
Micrófono-Cámara: Los primeros videos están grabados con un simple micrófono de PC Genius, de los más baratos; desde fines de 2009 uso un Samson-C01U (USB). Los primeros videos están filmados (horrorosamente) con una webcam genérica; después (2008) uso una cámara fotográfica (Canon Powershot 550).
Edición: uso Audacity para procesar el audio, Avisynth para la edición de video.

Guitar: In my first videos (2006-2009 aprox) I played a generic japonese guitar (uncommon brand: Asahi CG-413). Since 2010 I play a Yamaha CG-111-C. No specific string brand.
Mic/Camera: My first recordings were done with the most cheap PC mic (Genius); since endings of 2009 I use a Samson-C01U (USB). The first videos were recorded (very badly) with some cheap webcam; later (2008) I started using a photo camera (Canon Powershot 550).
Edition: I use Audacity for audio processing, Avisynth for video editing.

Desde el 24 de julio de 2006 subí 43 videos a mi canal de Youtube, bajo el nick leonbloy. Todos eran grabaciones mías, tocando en la guitarra. La mayoría eran mis arreglos instrumentales sobre música de películas del estudio Ghibli, y en los videos incluía pequeñas secciones de cada película (unos cinco fragmentos de diez segundos cada uno, típicamente). Una buena parte de estos arreglos los volqué a partitura, y los puse a disponibilidad de los guitarristas aquí: http://hjg.com.ar/ghibli/musica/. En estos casi cinco años recibí más de un millón de visitas, más de 2000 suscripciones, muchos comentarios y aliento. El 29 de junio de 2011 Youtube me dio de baja el canal, porque sus sistemas me señalaron como infractor (copyright por las películas de estudio Ghibli). Todos los videos, con sus historiales y comentarios, fueron borrados. Creé este blog para volver a publicar los videos, al menos en su mayoría.

Nota: las fechas que figuran en los posts de este blog -incluido este- están "en el pasado": no se corresponden al momento de su redacción (todos posteriores al 3/Jul/2011) sino que apuntan al año de la grabación original.

Since Jul-24-2006, I published 43 videos to my Youtube channel (nick: leonbloy) of my own recordings, playing classical guitar. Most of them were my arrangements for music from studio Ghibli movies; and in most of them I included tiny fragments of the movies (say, four or five video fragments of about eight seconds each). I also wrote down many of this arrangements, the scores-tabs are available here: http://hjg.com.ar/ghibli/musica/.
In these almost five years, I got more than a million visits, more than 2000 suscriptors and many comments and kind words. Recently, June-29-2011, Youtube terminated my channel because their automated systems picked me as an alleged copyright infractor. All videos, with histories and comments, were removed. I created this blog to make the videos available again - at least most of them.

Note: the dates of the posts in this blog (this post included) are "in the past": they obviously do not reflect the moment in which the posts were writen (all after 3/Jul/2011) but point instead to the year of the original recording and publication.
